Covenant Promises Matter, and the Lord Is More Powerful Than Nature

This woul have been a way that they communicate a you literally cut a covenant,. That's that's what you do in the ancient world. The example of abraham is just extraordinary. And we're just so blessed as latter day saints to have additional scripture to help us appreciate even more power of the covenant.
