What Is Equilibrium?

Seda upandita was one of the teachers on my first meditation retreat. She says equanimity is a spacious mind that can include everything, but not be reactive to anything. When there is reactivity, it comes in two ways: aversion or attachment. So for example, helicopters that come and go around our sanctuary here, i can see in my heart mind something coming up in response to the sound,. And it usually is aversion. It's a lot less now cause used to being mindful of it. But there's room for that aversion in the mind. Then what happens is that mindfulness comes to the foreground and is aware of that aversion.
