CHAPTER

The Importance of Collective Moral Agents

There's a lot of good work on the possibility of collective moral agents and just to be clear this is a collectively that is the agent. Philip, Adam, Christian List have a terrific book about what might be for groups to be agents. They argue that something like democracy might come close but look we surely don't think that collectivity that's organized as a nation or a state that's far from democracy somehow thereby escapes principles of justice. So I put that aside to not that there are no collective agents but there aren't enough of them to cover all those societies we think could be just or unjust.
