If your team doesn't have the resources to go full on bespoke design system, you can work with them to utilize something like Storybook. This is a really cool tool that allows engineers to put whatever code they're using for components in a central place. They can share the code base with the rest of the team. It has the added benefit of allowing the design team to actually visualize what the production components look like.
