Norwegian, Mother's Tongue?

Your father was norwegian american and your mother, as on, was norwegian. You grew up in northfield, minnesota. How do you think about the concept of a motherland? In my case, i think it was always related to the connective tissue of that which is mother's tongue,. So i actually spoke nor Norwegian before i spoke english. And there are still times when a subject comes up, usually in relation to childhood, where the norwegian word will come first.
