There is a huge responsibility upon everyone in the world to help the iranian people. We need to be by the side of therian people. I think the moment we are saying that iran is not our enemy is the momentwe are against the will of the iranianPeople. So i think we need to help themout. And ethink that about 19 53 and what happened with the briks having the cop et cetera. It's like, if we believe in this analogy, we are actually giving a justification for 70 % of the nations around the world that have been colonized by the brits to go and useteris against oqe and its region.
In this debate from the Intelligence Squared archive, we head back to 2020, when we invited journalist and broadcaster Mehdi Hasan, academic and writer Azadeh Moaveni, the Saudi political analyst Salman al-Ansari and former Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan to debate the motion: Iran is Not Our Enemy. The discussion touches on many issues that hold relevance in the current moment, ranging from the effectiveness of sanctions to the capabilities of nuclear-armed nations. The debate was chaired by the BBC's Chief International Correspondent, Lyse Doucet.
