At first, it seemed like everybody in the city was out to help. There were more than 75 fire wagons an hose carts that were trudging their way through snowy streets. By midnight, the burning area actually encompassed 17 blocks. It appeared that nothing was safe. Let's just think about the people again, who owned merchandise and they were watching their businesses burned to the ground.
