Many societies are predicated upon a honor and shame ri that the worst thing you can experience is to be shamed. What matters much more than honour are the things that are being honoured, namely your virtue and nobility. The question of who in your society is being honored the most? Are they the very best people? This has a lot of a weight across the ages.
