The Religiosity of the Masses
Mark Twain was a follower of ludwig foerbach, who influenced his atheism. He saw religion as an opium for the masses to dull their economic pain. To him capitalism is deeply oppressive and alienating system. A class struggle would lead to revolution that will put an end to capitalism - then religion will fade away.
