Is There a Way to Improve the Pacibo Effect?
My general strategy in these areas, which is probably similar to yours, is just to start with a default theory. And then ask, how well is the data doing against that theory? Then as you start to find puzzles like disconnects, then you say, what's an alternative? What else have i got? Because you can only really compare a theory to another one and then have a second alternative.
