The Importance of Connection in Reading
Students can be alerted to the fact that they don't understand something is when they fail to make a connection. The teacher just assumes more knowledge than the students really have, he says. So what I argue is you're very unlikely in a classroom to fail to realize that there's a fact or a definition that you don't understand. It's just like a vocabulary term. You can't miss the fact that like this is not in my memory. But with connections, you can miss a connection that the teacher thinks you're making and you might be making some sort of a connection but you missed the connection that was really intended.
