Comedy by pointing to contradictions and then relieving tension can generate community but the other thing is that a lot of Jewish jokes function on you only get it if you're Jewish. I think Jews were an early other in Europe prior to colonization and the consequences of that are the Holocaust which happened within the last century at the same time. A lot of Jewish humor in the theater world as well becomes part of everyone's vernacular so this is weird inside outside thing where everyone's in our jokesbut also not at the same times you have the hard other side of comedy whereas on one hand it can relieve tension and bring people together while excusing and endorsing ideologies of oppression.
