The pursuit of hedonic pleasure leads to ill health mentally and eudaimonic pleasure leads to good health mentally and also physically. People who pursue only their own personal pleasure express proteins in the body in a way that those who are enduring chronic stress express them. When we act intuitively, you may be surprised to learn, we are most often gracious and generous. It's a further reflection that we have afterwards that makes us selfish and greedy. According to psychologist Jamil Zaki and Jason Mitchell, pro-social behavior appears to stem from processes that are intuitive, reflexive and even automatic.
