I just can't help but believe in my journalistic a non scientific way, that the pressure on companies to meet earnings estimates and to deliver on profitability targets has got to play into this somehow or another. But i also wanted to go to what you said on mobility, because that gets at an issue, is to why this may be always a difficult topic to capture with with a model. I grew up in a small town in northern minnesota where the only industry there really was iron mining.
