The Spanish Flu: A Misnomer

The 1918 H1N1 pandemic killed about 500 million people and caused 50 million deaths. This particular strain was thought to have jumped species from an avian flu. The exact numbers are impossible to know, because there wasn't great medical recordkeeping at that time. It's also where the mantra spit spreads death cropped out of.
