The Role of Poetry in Self-Expression

I feel like rules are somewhat unfashionable amongst, let's say, millennials and maybe even boomers. I would like to say that my response to rules here is that all poets, no matter who they are, probably start on the square of romanticism. And in the history of romanticism, there's probably two understandings of the self that are in contradiction to each other. You demonstrate your talent by transcending it, by overcoming this agnostic relationship to a constraint.
