Vander Barbette's Influence on the 1960s
In 1963, Vander Barbette moved in with his half-sister Mary Cahill in Austin, Texas. He often returned to the Austin area in between jobs, but he never seemed to consider it home. As the 1960s wound down, Barbet worked less and less as his health had gotten steadily worse. In recent years, Barbette has been honored by his hometown of Round Rock, Texas.
Vander Clyde Broadway went by a few different names in his life, but Barbette is the one he got famous with. He was a female impersonator from Texas who became the toast of Paris in the 1920s.
