The Moral Consequences of Growth
Benjamin Friedman is Professor of Political Economy at Harvard. He believes that growth also strengthens the fabric of society. When societies experience broadly distributed economic growth, these other favorable non-material features of the society are enabled to flourish. And conversely, whenever people lose that sense of forward progress and lose optimism that it will return anytime soon, often societies under periods of retrenchment and retreat.
