The Foundation of Loyalty Programs

Visa or Chase is paying the airlines who are part of their rewards or loyalty program for a shit ton of miles. The reason that Chase or Visa is willing to do that is because they have seen that I am going to spend more with their card. It's essentially the airlines are earning the percent of your spend on all these different categories in exchange for the miles that you then get.
