A Snead Pendant From the Late Maya Culture
The shape of these spoons may be based on the iridescent shells of wing oysters. The shapes were used in ritual spoon pendants by meso-american peoples. They are thought to have been used for ceremonial hallucinagenic consumption. A similar t shape from later maya culture apparently signified the sacred breath.
