Steps are better than cardio because steps are throughout the day. It's easier to stay consistent with this type of activity. Can you do these steps on a treadmill? You can, but ideally you're just trying to stay active throughout the day and using a treadmill as a way to play catch up if I didn't get there. The first week you're aiming for 10,000 steps a day, the second week you're aims for 12,000, the third week, 14,000, and the last week, 16,000 steps.
