In southern california, we have seen an increase in fires. It takes over 50 years for lichens to recover after being exposed to fire. After the 19 90 fires, when i was doing a survey of the san bernardino mountains, i could not find any lichens through this whole area. And that's after 20 years so. That's a little bit drier habitat. So you're getting these like in deserts, ok? Where where the fire has burnt through and because of fragmentation of the environment with housing, urban development, free waysn and other things,.
