The energy stocks that make up the smallest portion of the S&P 500 are doing the best, but you don't really reap many benefits from holding them in a market cap weighted index. The Fed completely did a 180 has deemed energy stocks and value to be of importance. Passive indexes will slowly follow suit there. I think you should look at passive as taking active best ideas and all of their brain power and trading, except without their fees.
