The Consolidation of the Talent Community
In the 1930s and 40s, antitrust laws kept studios apart from each other in terms of being rivals. But since then, Hollywood has reconsolidated like the studio system prior to 1948. They don't have a lot of leverage, but it's also destroyed that link to the audience. And so the stuff that Hollywood puts out is increasingly stuff that people don't want to watch or that people have a hard time.
