The first slave ships came here in 16 19. There was almost 200 years of slavery in this country. At the end of the civil war, historians believe there was anywhere between four to five million people who were formerly enslaved. Those people were promised forty acres in a mule for every former slave family of four. So you've got 300 years of institutionalized violence against black people. And if martin lither king had lived, they would have dealt with voting rights,. They would have got into the issue of closing that economic gap it was understandable between whites and blacks at the end ofthe civil rights movement. And we've never closed it. It's time.
