Butler's Gender Performativity
Butler says that even though gender performativity is in some ways like a theatrical performance, it's also very, very different. Performativity means that you are actually bringing about your identity in the process of producing it. But when i'm up there on stage dressed as a man, acting the role of a man, i am not doing what butler calls gender performativity. We are really creating our identities through performative actions. That's an important point because itput butler in direct dialogue with austin.
