The Battle of Midelene
Piticus of Midelene was a tyrant who ruled from 589-588 BC. He took power after the Mitelenians were challenged by Athens for control of Sijian, which commanded an important position and produced much grain. Alkius wrote verses in celebration of Antimenidus' return to his family's home on Lesbos. Piticus is known as one of the famous seven sages in antiquity for his wisdom and spirit of justice.
