Spotify in order to have any success would need access to the 70% of music recordings that were controlled by the big three labels. The condition of those licenses was huge equity stakes for the big three in Spotify. Now this puts them in an irreconcilable conflict of interest because on the one hand, they're sort of fiduciaries for their artists.
