Monica: How do you measure the concentration of power in a country like Brazil? Monica: In this setting, we leverage on previous research and economic history. We count how many mayors belong to the same family by tracing their surnames. Our key measure of political concentration essentially will calculate what's the share of elections or terms in which the same family has been in power.
