Then franceand western europe collapses very quickly,. And britain is left, in the public imagination, at least, alone, opposite, has its empire - but it also starts to have a help from the united states. This is the moment when britain stands alone in europe against the sen the narty menace and stuff. I think she gets a lot of that from the kind of rhetoric of war time as well.
