The internet is built on trust. Back in the day when it was just a research project, the internet, nobody had to worry about nefarious actors. But as soon as money is like added to any sort of thing, there's going to be nefarious actors that try to steal your information and your money. So what they decide to do is add public key cryptography to the DNS system. Do you guys know how public key cryptography works? Nope. The good old days. Yeah.
In this episode, David sits down to explain how wanting the Pizza.Pizza domain led him down a rabbit hole to discovering some interesting facts about how the internet works. Who decides what domains are available? How much does it cost to start one? And is it true that there are seven people with special keys that control the internet? David gets to the bottom of it all! We hope you enjoy.
