The History of Elizabeth Bathory
The local lutheran pastor, janus punicinus, seemed to delight in accusing elizabeth of witchcraft and cannibalism. Almost all of the testimony was word of mouth, hearsay from people who had heard of bathery's abuse. The countess herself remained a lifelong calvinist, just like her mother had been. She didn't renounce lutheranism or hinder the religious freedom of the lutherans on her land.
