The Secret Meeting Between Cardinal Derauhan and Marie Antoinette
Cardinal Derauhan wanted proof that Marie Antoinette was involved in the theft of a diamond necklace. Jean de la Mott, who had been known to orbit the aristocracy and spend time at Versailles, helped him set it up. She even produced a fake letter from the queen forged by her con artist lover. The church lost their shit because a cardinal was on trial. DeRohan was found not guilty, he was beyond a reasonable doubt, both useful and an idiot so a deal was struck.
