The History of Harlem

The first dutch settlement popped up here in the mid seventeenth century, when new harlem was formarly incorporated by peter stuyvesont. The name was given to it by dutch settlers after the dutch town of harlem that's located just about ten or 12 miles west of amsterdam. So more or less the northern portion of today's east harlem is oundo the starting spot here.
