The Challenges of Interpreting a Federally Funded Historic Site

The National Park Service is a national agency and gets its staff from across the nation. "We do have to be respectful of all the people who have connections to this place," an interpretive ranger says. People want to see land and cultural resources manage in certain ways, he adds. The park service doesn't really have institutional knowledge built up yet for a lot of the content at Missouri's French and Spanish colonial site.
