Kroger is the second largest grocer by market share in the US behind Walmart. Albertsons are responsible for brands like Safeway and Cars, with just under 2300 stores. Kroger's revenue is double that of Albersons' - even though those footprints are still similar. Both companies offer a good yield; I would imagine if this is allowed to go through, you'll see some trimming of the fat,. so to speak, maximizing efficiencies.
