The problem of the gamification of everything is not merely a problem of explicit design features. There's something even deeper than addiction about our craving for a clear set of values handed to us. So in the stuff I've been writing, my worry here is that companies and institutions are setting standards that we kind of just glom onto because they're easy and they're pre-made and they're shared.
