The Relationship Between Serotonin and Depression

For many years, scientists did believe that serotonin was the cause of depression. The monanine hypothesis does suggest that reduced activity of things like serotonin and another monanine known as neuroepinephrine is what leads to depression. And this is based primarily on evidence that drugs that are effective in treating depression tend to target these systems.
