The Inseparable Union of Souls
The gift is traditionally called the marital debt, which I realize is somewhat of an archaic term and sounds rather transactional. Now traditionally what this has meant is that each spouse can request the conjugal act from the other because you belong to me and I belong to you. In theory that saying no was not an option, is not an option. But it also shows that he wanted to protect the couple from lust and the possibility of objectifying each other sexually. For him this was also a big deal about monogamy and into solubility,. It's about raising the children which takes a lot even he acknowledged takes a lot longer than animals to raise their children.
