Shanghai: The Yellow Barricades
On the street side, there are commercial buildings and then internally, within the blocks, there are neighborhoods where people live. I cut across Jingan to its less commercial parts and saw a very different picture. The barricades were walling off this particular section of houses that were old and historical, a relic of Shanghai's former colonial status. They were shut in and sealed off from everything else.
