Starman was the featured single off of 19 70 twos, the rise and fall of zigi stardust and the spiders from mars. It's a theatrical and even cyndematic song in much the same way as space adi. Harmonically though, it actually starts in a very weird place that isn't indicative of where the rest of the song is going. They're just trying to get this weird, ugly sound which does set a kind of an other worldly tone for a song otherwise pretty straightforward.
