The History of the New York Stock Exchange
Even though slavery was banned in New York in 1788, it wasn't banned in the state until 1827. They were working in stocks that inevitably were connected to slavery. It's certainly not a pristine picture that we're painting here. The taunting actually ended up getting knocked down and the building was replaced for that in 1855. By this point, the stock exchange was just maybe a little bit too big now for the taunting.
