Enlightenment Is Not a Romantic Idea

I am pro-enlightenment and in that sense I am not on the side of the romantics but my understanding of enlightenment is very compatible with the romantics. For me enlightenment is a permanent human ideal that has to be reenacted with every human being from scratch because at every moment in history when someone grows up starts going to school as a child they are in effect beginning where Godmurs says they're beginning embedded in prejudice. To become enlightened is to learn to examine them for oneself and to try to achieve a modicum of wisdom for each of us individually. One path toward enlightenment could be reading a lot of Heidegger, he said.
