For most companies that are big enough to need a data platform team, it's just not feasible for the platform team to really get what's going on in all of those. So often you'll see teams that are sort of specialists in some subset of that and that puts them in a place where they're dog-fooding their own tools. One of the reasons that data work is so challenging is because no single person or team owns the entire process. This introduces friction in the process of collecting, processing, and using data. In order to reduce the potential for broken pipelines some teams have started to adopt the idea of data contracts.
