The Importance of Jerusalem in the Near East
Jerusalem has always been a small, impoverished, relatively isolated mountain town. It was never on a major trade route or had big international relations. The importance of Jerusalem lies in eventually it becoming the dwelling place of the God of Israel. That's really what makes Jerusalem important.
