Stoic philosophy, you could say as a kind of, in some ways, was a sort of resurgence and the condensation of the Socratic tradition. The Stoics would say that what they were trying to do was encapsure practical wisdom of the form embodied by Socrates. So it's a recipe for mental health and fulfillment, a kind of self-help philosophy if you like.
