A few days earlier she'd watched her party leader respond to the Russian Novachok poisoning in Salisbury - an actual chemical weapon attack on British soil. She picked up the phone to a fellow MP and close colleague: 'I think you should stand for Labour leader' Gear Starmer said yes; they would hold secret meetings every Monday morning in Jenny Chapman's house with a select number of trusted colleagues. By December 2019, after the worst election defeat in Labour's recent history, Starmer's moment would arrive.
