The rise of Castro in the Cuban revolution was an absolute boon for Duvalier. He used it as a constant threat hanging over the Americans to say, oh well, if you don't give me another sort of $50 million in aid, I might just have to look elsewhere. This is a bargaining tool Duvalier will be able to repeat time and time again. But for now, at least, he might not stay that way who can tell what the future holds.
