The Orthodox view of the fall is not like a justice law court metaphor, but rather we're sick and we're in need of a cure. God comes in as the divine surgeon to root out the sin that is making us ill. Sin is our productive strategies; it's this cosmic rebellion which is very conscious, very willful.
