Mendelssohn's Unison Theme
Mendelssohn takes his eighth note theme and has it fly around the octet. This is fun on our recording,. dizzying in concert, and to look at the score is like looking at a Jackson Pollock painting, notes everywhere. Everything Mendelssohn is doing follows some kind of rule book. Mostly he is using devices like imitation and inversion but he does it in such a subtle and joyful way that we don't notice how academically perfect it is.
